Outdoor Kitchens & Living Spaces

Grill islands, fire features, pergolas, and outdoor living rooms that turn a Charlotte or Lake Norman backyard into your favorite room in the house.

One cohesive environment

The backyard as a true room.

The best outdoor living spaces don't feel like a grill parked on a patio — they feel like an extension of the home, with the same sense of flow, comfort, and intention you'd expect indoors. Southern Cut designs and builds these spaces as complete environments: kitchen, fire, shelter, light, and planting composed together so every element belongs.

In Charlotte's long, temperate seasons, a well-designed outdoor room earns its keep nearly year-round. We plan the layout around how you actually gather — the cook facing guests, the fire drawing people in on a cool Piedmont evening, the seating oriented to the yard or the water. A covered pergola or pavilion, integrated heaters, and layered landscape lighting stretch the usable season from the first warm weekend of spring deep into autumn.

Because a single team handles the masonry, gas, electrical, hardscape, and planting, the utilities are roughed in cleanly before the stone is set, and the finished space reads as one design. From an intimate fire-pit terrace in Davidson to a full lakeside pavilion with kitchen, bar, and water feature on the Cornelius Peninsula, the result is a room without walls that you'll use every evening.

Outdoor living FAQ

A functional grill island typically starts in the mid five figures, while a full outdoor kitchen with masonry, premium appliances, counter seating, and a covering can range well into six figures. Fire features, pergolas, lighting, and water elements are priced by scope. After the site walk we provide a transparent, itemized estimate for the complete living space.

Yes. Charlotte and Lake Norman enjoy long, mild shoulder seasons, and a covered structure with a fireplace, heaters, and lighting extends comfortable use from early spring into late fall — and on many winter evenings. We design the layout, shelter, and heat sources specifically to lengthen your outdoor season.

Grill islands and bars, built-in gas or charcoal grills, side burners, pizza ovens, smokers, refrigeration, ice and beverage centers, sinks, and generous stone counters. Beyond the kitchen we integrate fire pits and fireplaces, pergolas and pavilions, televisions, landscape lighting, and water features — all coordinated into one cohesive plan.

Yes. As a design–build contractor we coordinate the licensed gas, electrical, and plumbing trades, secure the required permits, and sequence their work with our masonry and hardscape crews so the utilities are roughed in cleanly before the stone goes down — no retrofits, no exposed lines.

Most outdoor kitchen and living projects take three to six weeks on site once design is approved and materials arrive, depending on the masonry, covering, and appliance lead times. Larger pavilions and multi-element spaces run longer. Your project lead provides a stage-by-stage schedule up front.
