Refined, estate-grade design–build for a town of mature canopies, brick sidewalks, and college-town character — from River Run to the streets around Main.
Few towns in the Charlotte region carry the sense of place that Davidson does. The brick storefronts of Main Street, the wooded quads of Davidson College, and the deep hardwood canopy that shades its older neighborhoods set an unusually high standard for outdoor design. A landscape here should feel like it has always belonged.
That is exactly how Southern Cut approaches every Davidson property. We design planting and stonework that complement heritage oaks and historic architecture rather than compete with them — layered, native-forward plantings, natural-stone terraces, and quietly beautiful lighting that reads as timeless. Because a single in-house team draws, engineers, and builds each project, the refined plan you approve is the one that takes root in your yard.

From golf-course estates to homes a short walk from campus, we build across every corner of Davidson.
Golf-course estates where sweeping lawns, layered planting beds, and stone terraces frame the fairway views and mature landscaping this community is built around.
Established family homes on generous, wooded lots — ideal for outdoor living rooms, fire features, and planting that softens the transition to the tree line.
Cottage gardens and courtyard patios within the walkable grid off Main Street, designed to respect tight setbacks, brick sidewalks, and historic character.
Distinguished older homes beneath heritage hardwoods near campus, where we restore and refine mature landscapes without disturbing decades-old root systems.
Traditional-brick residences on level lots that lend themselves to formal planting geometry, paver walkways, and low seating walls that define the grounds.
We also serve the estates along the Davidson–Cornelius line and the older acreage toward the lake — plus every Lake Norman town nearby.
Every service framed for Davidson's mature lots, historic character, and refined-planting sensibility.

Davidson homeowners tend to value permanence over trend, and craftsmanship over shortcuts. That aligns exactly with how we work: proper base prep and drainage beneath every stone, planting designed to look better in ten years than the day it went in, and a crew that treats a historic street with the care it deserves.
"They understood our street. The new stone terrace and planting look like they've been part of the house for decades — exactly what we hoped for near campus."

Davidson sits at the heart of our service area. If you are just over a town line, we are already working near you.
All service areasYes. We regularly design and build in the streets around Main Street and the Davidson College campus, where mature oaks, tight setbacks, and historic character shape every plan. We design to complement the existing tree canopy and brick-sidewalk vernacular rather than fight it, and we sequence work carefully to protect established root zones and neighbors.
Often, yes. Many Davidson lots have heritage hardwoods, so we use permeable pavers, hand-excavation near critical root zones, and pier-supported or floating structures where appropriate to minimize disturbance. We assess each tree's condition and root spread before finalizing the layout.
We serve all of Davidson, including River Run, Bailey Springs, St. Albans, the historic downtown grid, and the estates and older homes surrounding Davidson College. We also work throughout the Lake Norman towns of Cornelius, Huntersville, and Mooresville.
Design and 3D renderings typically take two to four weeks. Build timelines depend on scope — a refined planting refresh may take a week, while a full master plan with hardscaping, drainage, and lighting can run several weeks. You receive a clear schedule before we break ground.
Yes. Many established Davidson properties have dated grading and settling that sends water toward foundations. We correct grade, install French drains and dry creek beds, and build engineered retaining walls to reclaim usable, level space while protecting the home.
