Myers Park, Eastover and Dilworth come with mature willow-oak canopy, decades-old grade changes and established root systems, so we design around the trees rather than against them: hand-excavated footings near critical roots, permeable base details, and planting palettes suited to dense shade. We treat these grounds as heritage landscapes.
That is central to how we design. Whether it's a brick Georgian in Foxcroft or a transitional new build in SouthPark, we specify stone, brick and paver blends that read as original to the house. We often source clay pavers and full-bed stone veneers that tie a new patio, walkway or courtyard to existing masonry and columns.
Charlotte's red Piedmont clay drains slowly and moves with the seasons, which is why so many patios heave and so many yards stay soggy. Every Southern Cut build starts with grading and a drainage plan — compacted open-graded base under hardscape, French drains and catch basins where water collects, and downspout tie-ins routed well away from the foundation.
