Dockside landscapes, shoreline drainage, slope retaining walls, and outdoor entertaining — design–build for lake homes along the entire shoreline.
Lake Norman stretches more than 500 miles of shoreline across the towns north of Charlotte — Cornelius and Davidson to the south, Mooresville to the north, Huntersville along the western coves. For the homeowners who live on that water, the landscape is not a front yard. It is the reason they bought the lot.
Waterfront property, though, is unforgiving. Lots pitch steeply toward the shore, soils shift, and every rain sends runoff racing for the water. Southern Cut was built for exactly this. We design and engineer dockside landscapes that carry a home's living space to the water's edge — terraced patios, stepped retaining walls, controlled drainage, and native-forward shoreline planting — all drawn, engineered, and built by one accountable in-house team. From first sketch to final stone, the plan you approve is the waterfront you live on.

On a waterfront lot, a shortcut doesn't stay hidden for long — it erodes, it settles, it washes toward the lake. Southern Cut builds every Lake Norman project on the engineering you never see: base prep, grading, and drainage that keep the visible beauty exactly where you put it. That discipline, and a single accountable team, is why homeowners along the shoreline trust us with their most valuable view.
"The erosion on our slope kept getting worse until Southern Cut terraced it with retaining walls and drainage. Now it's the best part of the property — patio, planting, and a clear path down to the dock."

All service areasYes. Lakefront work is a core discipline for us. We design and build dockside landscapes, waterside patios and terraces, shoreline planting, and lighting that carry a home's living space all the way down to the water — engineered for the slopes and soils specific to Lake Norman lots.
Most Lake Norman lots pitch toward the water, so uncontrolled runoff and erosion are the biggest long-term risks. We correct grade, install French drains and dry creek beds, add native-forward shoreline planting, and build engineered retaining walls that slow and direct water — protecting both the landscape and the shoreline.
Yes. Terraced, engineered retaining walls are one of our most-requested lakefront builds. They turn an unusable steep bank into a series of level, livable spaces — patios, planting beds, and pathways — that descend gracefully from the home toward the dock.
We serve the entire Lake Norman shoreline, including the lakefront neighborhoods of Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, and Huntersville — from The Peninsula to The Point. We also work throughout greater Charlotte.
Absolutely. Lake homes are built for gathering, so we design cohesive outdoor living environments — kitchens, fire features, covered structures, and lakeview seating — planned together as one environment rather than separate projects, all oriented to make the most of the water view.
